The department of Anatomy is the branch of biology concerned with the study of the structure of organisms and their parts. Anatomy is a branch of natural science which deals with the structural organization of living things.

The objective of the department is to train and teach undergraduate students to provide comprehensive knowledge of the gross and microscopic structure and development of human body to provide a basis for understanding the clinical correlation of organs or structures involved and the anatomical basis for the disease presentations.

Anatomy is subdivided into gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy. Gross anatomy is the study of anatomical structures that can be seen by unaided vision, while microscopic anatomy is the study of minute anatomical structures assisted with microscopes. The department is actively introducing advanced learning and teaching methods into the under graduate and post graduate teaching.
 

The Department of Anatomy is well equipped with

  • Well-ventilated Dissection Hall.
  •  Histology laboratory with natural and artificial light.
  • Research lab with all modern instruments.
  • Well planned museum with specimens and respective photographs for reference.
  • Two demonstration rooms that can accommodate 80 students each.
  •  Well-equipped with audio-visual teaching aids like microscopes (uniocular, binocular and dissection microscope with TV monitor, slide projectors, overhead projectors, computers, printers and LCD projector.
  •  A large collection old dissected specimens and dry bone sets, X- rays, Scans.

Programs conducted

  • The department is involved in conducting body donation programs and EYE donation programs in collaboration with the department of ophthalmology. Since then, we have received 5 body donations and 15 applications for body donation to the college.
  •  Every year student seminar will be conducted under supervision of various clinical departments.
  •  In collaboration with the Department of Orthopedics, the department has conducted CME on Spine surgery. The Orthopedics PGs were allowed to practice step-by-step spine surgeries on cadavers.
  •  Every year, the department is involved in conducting inter-departmental programs, discussing recent advances in Anatomy.
